What Makes Weather "Good" for Outdoor Events?

Ideal outdoor event weather combines: temperatures between 65-80°F, fewer than 5 rain days per month, low humidity (under 60%), and plenty of sunshine. Using these criteria, we ranked states by the number of months meeting these conditions.

Top States for Year-Round Outdoor Events

California (Southern) is the undisputed champion with 10-11 comfortable months annually in cities like San Diego and Los Angeles. Rainfall is concentrated in December-March, leaving spring through fall nearly rain-free.

Arizona offers exceptional fall and spring conditions (October-April) but summer heat (100°F+) limits outdoor events June-September without shade structures and misting.

Nevada - Las Vegas specifically - has a surprisingly long outdoor event season from October through May, with minimal rainfall year-round. Summer is hot but evenings cool quickly after sunset.

Best States by Season

Spring (March-May)

California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas (central) offer the most reliable spring weather. The Southeast (Georgia, Carolinas) is beautiful in spring but rain chances increase significantly.

Summer (June-August)

The Pacific Northwest excels in summer - Portland and Seattle have their driest, sunniest months June-August with temperatures in the 70s-80s. The interior West (Colorado mountain towns) also shines in summer with low humidity and afternoon thunderstorms that typically clear quickly.

Fall (September-November)

The mid-Atlantic (Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania) and New England offer stunning fall color with generally good weather. October is often the most reliable month in these regions.

Winter

Florida (central and south), Hawaii, and coastal Southern California are the top winter event locations. Temperatures stay in the 60-75°F range with low rain probability in drier months.

States to Avoid for Outdoor Events

The Gulf Coast states (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama) have high year-round humidity and frequent afternoon thunderstorms in summer. The upper Midwest and Great Plains have extreme seasonal swings. Alaska and northern mountain states have very short viable outdoor windows.
